Last month, we held our annual Private Renters Conference in Southwark, bringing together statutory and voluntary sector professionals to discuss renters’ experiences, upcoming reforms, and the future of the sector at both local and national levels.

We were particularly interested to hear from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) about the implementation and enforcement of the Renters’ Rights Bill, which (as of 1 October 2025) is expected to receive Royal Assent later this year.

The Conference provided opportunity for Southwark’s legal and community organisations to think about how to prepare renters for their new rights, which include the end of fixed-term tenancies and Section 21 ‘no fault’ eviction.
