Hello from Southwark Private Renters’ Support Project, and happy new year!
Our January newsletter reminds you of your rights around Section 21 eviction notices, invites you to take part in our research on private renting in Southwark, and shares information about the Bells Garden housing surgery.
Is your Section 21 notice valid?
With Section 21 notices on their way out later this year with the Renters’ Rights Act, many renters may be vulnerable to ‘no-fault’ eviction as landlords seize their last opportunity to use this power.
Make sure you know your rights when it comes to Section 21 notices, and how you can check if a notice is valid. Many landlords serve invalid notices which can’t be used to evict you, meaning you might be able to stay in your home.
Share your renting story!
Thank you to everyone who took part in our Southwark Private Renters Survey!
To strengthen our research, we’re now looking for renters who would like to take part in an informal conversation, to share your story in more depth. Every renter’s story and perspective is different, but there are many experiences that unite us, and sharing your story can help make our collective voice stronger as we demand a fairer, safer, and more affordable private rented sector.
If you’re interested in sharing your story with us, please get in touch by emailing privaterenters@citizensadvicesouthwark.org.uk.
