Get Involved

Private renters exist in every community and we have a greater impact when we work together. If you are a private renter, join the mailing list to keep updated about our work. Below are some other opportunities to improve private renting and ensure renters know their rights.

Campaigns

Join us on 18 April in central London to demand rent controls and council homes, not luxury flats.

Sky-high rents and lack of good-quality council homes is making life impossible for too many of us. Rising rents mean people are forced to cut back on essentials like food and heating, or they’re pushed out of their homes all together, cut off from family, friends and community. Homelessness has reached record levels and there’s an ever-increasing number of homeless deaths. Disabled renters face discrimination and can’t secure accessible homes, while institutionally racist housing associations and council landlords neglect and mismanage estates, damaging our health and letting children like Awaab Ishak die.
For too long, successive governments have prioritised the desire of private developers and landlords to make a profit over our need for affordable, secure, accessible homes. This can’t go on. It’s time to fight back. On 18 April, thousands of people will take to the streets of London to demand change. We need rent controls and for this government to invest in more council homes.

Write to your councillor and ask them to support the National Housing Demonstration!

We need local politicians to support the National Housing Demonstration on 18 April, and who will champion our demands for rent controls and council housing development.

The upcoming local elections on 7 May make this is a crucial time to get candidates to show their commitment to helping solve the housing crisis.

Use our template letters to send to councillors and candidates standing in the local elections, asking them to join us at the National Housing Demonstration, and to use their platform to help make affordable housing a reality in Southwark!

What is property Licencing? Awareness campaign for Southwark's private renters

Licencing offers a better regulated private sector, better standard of accommodation for tenants and, in some instances, repayment of rent. As Southwark Council continues to steadily expand the scheme across the borough,  we believe that understanding licencing and how it can benefit private renters is crucial.

As a result, we developed an awareness campaign for Southwark’s private renters.
